Collab with Bobbi
My granny, Bobbi Giblin, passed away in 2022 after several strokes. She has a no-nonsense name, and she really was a no-nonsense lady. She had a way of demanding respect, but yet she was always the one to throw little parties for us or give us gifts. We were raised as Jehovah Witnesses, so we didn’t celebrate holidays. I joke that my father became a Witness so he wouldn’t have to spend money on gifts. He was…let’s call it thrifty. Granny and my aunt Terri planned little parties for us and made us feel special. We knew not to misbehave with Granny. She once put us on rice on our knees. Children need a happy balance of discipline and love to thrive, and Granny did that.
My aunt gave me a bunch of her artwork to preserve after she got sick, and I made some copies for myself. I was able to trace some of her last sketches. I wanted to take her sketches and paint them in her style to keep for my home. Here’s what I have done so far, Enjoy.
These are the three tracings I made of her sketches.
Granny loved her some ruffles, but man it sucks painting them lol. Those spots that look like I missed are little rose buds, I’ll do them last.
More ruffles! I’m painting these with Bob Ross Oils because, unlike Granny, I hate acrylics. Granny would have painted this lady in more muted colors. She loved pink, baby blue, and a mint green. I like to walk on the bold side with color. Think of a Peacock feather…that’s my color wheel. I usually prefer Winsor & Newton…but these are paints that my dad had left after he passed. He passed a week after Granny, and he was a Bob Ross fanatic. I’ll do an article on him and his art next. I will post some finished pics soon.
